In this event, experts from Indiana University and K&L Gates will provide AUECO members with training on export jurisdiction and classification. The discussion will cover the order of review, “specially designed” analysis, and practical case studies. Participants should be prepared to engage in interactive classification exercises.

Bio: Kathryn serves as Director of Research Security & Export Control at Indiana University (IU) within the Research Security Office. Before joining IU, she worked at the U.S. Department of State's Directorate of Defense Trade Controls as a Commodity Jurisdiction (CJ) Analyst, where her work included processing CJ requests, developing regulatory policy for the U.S. Munitions List, supporting rulemaking efforts, and drafting advisory opinions. She began her career in export compliance at the University of Arizona as an Export Control Analyst. She is licensed to practice law in Texas and Washington, D.C.
Marissa Cloutier
National Security Policy Advisor
K&L Gates LLP
Bio: As a National Security Policy Advisor at K&L Gates LLP, Marissa Cloutier advises clients on research security and export controls. Ms. Cloutier supports universities in building and strengthening compliance programs, interpreting federal regulations and agency guidance, and communicating regularly with government leaders in this area. She previously advised on research security, export controls, and national security in roles at the U.S. Department of State (DDTC), the U.S. Department of the Air Force (SAF/IA), and NASA.
